Here's a bit of history about Blankets for Canada.

Blankets for Canada set its first year goal of 100 blankets, to be completed by the end of 1998.  In that year alone, and with only one chapter, in Lethbridge, Alberta, over 200 blankets were completed.

As the twentieth century ended, the year 2000 saw Blankets for Canada spread out across our great land, with chapters and groups in every province and the three territories.  Some groups consist of one or two people, and others have dozens of committed volunteers.

Blankets for Canada has recorded 20,000 or more volunteer hours each month just knitting, crocheting and sewing blankets together across Canada.

Canadians have knit by hand, and by machine; crocheted and quilted blankets to help warm their fellow Canadians.   Canadians of all ages, many cultures and both genders give generously of their time and talents.

Many seniors are busy knitting and crocheting as you read this. Several schools across Canada have become part of our Back to School Program and they are busy learning to knit and crochet blankets to help those in their area.   Grades Five and Six classes learned to knit and made a blanket.

Our volunteers sew a label on each blanket that says: "Compliments of Blankets For Canada, NOT FOR SALE".  The completed blankets go primarily to agencies which provide support for Canadians without homes.

With the economy in a constant state of flux, Blankets for Canada is busier than ever, providing warmth to Canadians from coast to coast to coast.

Blankets for Canada is supported by businesses and individuals in Canada, as well as in the communities where the chapters are located, whether it be donations of yarn, space in a mall or church, or transportation of completed blankets to receiving agencies.

Blankets for Canada has no paid employees.  All the good work is done on a strictly volunteer basis.

Blankets for Canada wishes to thank all those private individuals and businesses which support us.  Without you, there would be no Blankets for Canada.  We work hard for the day when we are no longer needed to help keep Canadians warm.
