Blankets For Canada was granted their Society Standing on November 20, 1998. Charity Standing was granted Oct of 1999.
Here's a bit of history about Blankets for Canada.
Our first year we had a goal of 100 blankets by the end of 1998. We met this and then some, over 200 blankets for 1998.
As we ended the century, 2000 found us with chapters starting in almost every Province and the Territories, across Canada. Some are very small but working very hard to help those in their area. We have recorded 20,000 volunteer hours each month just knitting, crocheting and sewing blankets together across Canada. This is just what is recorded.
People knitted by hand and by knitting machine and crocheted these blankets to help warm Canadians. Men, women, boys and girls have all joined in this project. Many of our seniors are busy knitting and crocheting as you read this. Many of our schools across Canada have become part of our Back to School Program and they are busy learning to knit and crochet blankets to help those in their area. A 5th & 6th grade class learned to knit and made a blanket.
We try to sew labels saying "Compliments of Blankets For Canada NOT FOR SALE" onto each blanket that we give to organizations to pass on to those without shelter. When we do not have the labels we just put a note.
With the rising cost of utilities and more people out of work or not able to make it on what they make, we look forward to a busy 2001 helping in what ever way they can to support the organizations that help those in need of warmth in Canada.
Blankets has gone mobile in 2001 and we will be visiting as many chapters as we can this summer. To offer what ever help is needed.
Blankets is supported by the business of Canada and the communities where the chapters are located. We thank all people and business for their support.
Blankets does not have any paid employees and has no plans to have any.
We each work hard for the day that we are no longer need to help keep Canadians in need warmth.
